Great food and great service. Had the bistro breakfast sandwich and was not disappointed. The nice thing about this sandwich was that it had a tomato on it. Also had he hash browns which were delicious, especially with white cheese on it. We will be back!

A couple of years back, while on a weekend trip to Door County, my husband and I stopped in here for breakfast. Having had a great experience, we decided to come back again on our most recent trip. Sadly, things did not go as well this time around. Things seemed to start out on a good note. We didn't have to wait as long to be seated as we did on our last visit. Our server was nice enough. And the food itself was delicious. As our visit progressed, the restaurant got a bit busier. That's when the service started to slip. My husband's breakfast was supposed to include unlimited hashbrowns. After receiving our food and drinks, our server never came back to check on us or ask if we wanted anything else. My husband wanted to order some more hashbrowns. We finally flagged down someone and asked for another order. He said that he would put it in. Right after that, the server came over, dropped off our bill, and walked away. At that point, we gave up, paid the bill, and left. We had other places that we wanted to go to before we left to head back to Milwaukee. I sure hope that this experience is not the norm. As I stated earlier, the food (and also the mimosas) are delicious. Perhaps they need to look at hiring more people, especially for the busier times of year.

Just left after sitting with NO service. Not busy either:( Others came in and got menus and drinks. Table was dirty with the previous meal. Waitress had told has to choose a table, we obviously chose wrongly!

This place was very cute and had great food. Our server was Gerald and he was super helpful. He also was very prompt but not intrusive. It seemed that some of the servers were not nearly as good as Gerald. All and all I would definitely eat here again food was great and inexpensive. Do not buy any of the merchandise because it is way overpriced and you could buy it somewhere else in Door County for much cheaper.

I stopped for lunch with a group of 6 other girls this weekend while we were visiting Door County. When we arrived when told the hostess 7 and that we would prefer to sit outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. After the hostess and 2 other people standing by had an audible argument (literally, she said "do something or get out of my way"), we were seated outside. Our server was NOT attentive and slow as molasses in January. He was truly a bad server all around. The drinks were ok, the food was decent but way overpriced. $7 for a "half" salad (which was more like a handful of lettuce, I kid you not) is ridiculous. The caeser dressing was also not my favorite that I have ever had. I don't think I'd go back.

I stopped in with a few others for lunch after some shopping near by. I had the tuna melt and soup of the day, both of which were delicious, although somewhat pricey for a casual lunch. Everybody I went with was very satisfied with their food and said they would go back again. Loved sitting outside to watch the hustle and bustle around Egg Harbor. Three star rating instead of a four due to price and the fact that the server did not bring out napkins or utensils for us.

We were staying at a cabin in Egg Harbor the first week end in October 2014 and got into town a little late. We decided to go to the Bistro at Liberty Square since it was so close and easy. There were about 4 tables taken when we walked in behind a lady that had a question about a bakery in the area. It did take several minutes to get seated while 2 servers answered her question and getting seated was just "have a seat wherever you like." That was a little frustrating, but the food made up for it. I had a 1/2 grilled cheese sandwich and homemade minestrone soup. Very good. Everything else that the people in my party had was great too...a meatball sandwich and pizza. We decided to go back the following morning for breakfast and the service was better. In fact the owner seated us this time. We were pleased with all our meals. We will definitely keep The Bistro on our go to short list in DC.

Liked this spot for their delicious walnut burger I've had in the past. Arrived at 6:30 pm noticed right away that empty tables hadn't been cleared, full tables all seemed to be waiting for food. Customers had this look of frustration. Opted to sit inside at one of the tables that was marginally clean. Took awhile for our waitress to take order. She then informed us that they were serving a large group in the adjoining restaurant so it may take awhile. We asked her to bring us some bread to hold us over. She never did. Wine wasn't what I remember from last visit. The red had to be returned because it tasted sour. May have been an extremely off night for them, but clearly they were either understaffed or not trained well

We stopped here as our 4 yr old slept through our family lunch and woke up starving. We ordered him pancakes as they serve breakfast all day and they were fine, not great, not terrible...average. Our 13 yr old ordered a dessert which looked and tasted good and my wife and I just had coffee. Total bill $26, pretty spendy but all of Door County is. I would consider stopping here again but wouldn't go out of my way. Dint hate it, didn't love it...just meh!

Horrible. We stopped at The Bistro, and we were in the mood for a good breakfast. That did not materialize. First, we were greeted at the door and were asked how many were in our party (2). We were asked again 3 minutes later. Yet again 5 minutes after that. After the fourth time, it became comical. The place was packed, so the staff shuffled us off to Galileo's a couple of doors down. This was a little off-putting. There was nobody in there, so it was as if we were being put in the corner. Then we ordered our breakfast (the "Fill you Up" breakfast). It did not fill us up. It was advertised on the menu as coming with "all you can eat hashbrowns". This, too, was comical. The portion they delivered was undercooked, and it was a little more than a spoonful. The bread was subpar, and the coffee tasted like it was burnt. After waiting 25 minutes for our waitress to come back, I ordered more hashbrowns. Again, we received this ridiculously small portion. Will not be coming back. Go there if you're looking to waste money and are in for a cheap laugh.

Nice spot for lunch on their patio. They have a nice selection of food, wine and beers. The food quality is good the veggie burger is fresh and homemade with a nice texture and flavor and I recommend it if you are vegetarian or not. I see a lot of reviews that complain about the service here. My experience was just fine it's door county and things are more later back here but our server did a perfectly reasonable job and everything came out in a timely manor. I'll defiantly come back next time I'm in town.

My wife and I stopped here for some breakfast and were pleasantly surprised. I had the country fried steak with hash browns and two eggs over medium. Eggs were cooked perfectly and the steak had a great breading with some solid gravy. Hash browns were a bit bland, but the coffee was surprisingly good. Next time that we're in Door County, we will not hesitate to stop in for breakfast.

Sometimes it is hard to believe that there can be such a long withstanding trend of horrible service. I can attest to the fact that despite numerous reviews stating this the trend continues. Breakfast should be the simplest meal of the day- not today! Not sure that we will get our food as we watch the constant floundering of the waitstaff and tables being served in a haphazard manor! Should you read the review first I would say skip this place! No loyalty here nor feelings of being valued, appreciated or a priority (as the placemat states)! Oh here is our food! 34 minutes since we ordered!

The one benefit was the kids menu was good for our 2 and 3 year olds. $40 for lunch for 4 is overpriced considering only water and sandwiches. Our service was fine but he waiters were arguing over who owned the tables right in front of us and it lasted the entire meal.

We have gone here several times over the past few years and have always had a good experience. The soups and salads are very good. Today I had the chicken salad sandwich which was very good. It had lots of chicken chunks, grapes, apples and pecans. The pea soup was also good.

  • Tom J.

Our server was really nice, but also managed to screw up a simple order. Food is overpriced and portion size is small. It does have a nice area to sit outside but nothing else about this place is appealing.

Doesn't look like they help anyone here. especially on a Monday! We left after 20 minutes of nobody coming to our table.

Food was OK, but the service was... Wait for 5 minutes for a fork while your food sits in front of you... Terrible.

Very mixed feelings on this one. We had lunch at the Bistro, and my husband ordered the gyros. He was served four thin slices of meat rather than an overflowing pita. All other lunches, including mine, were generously portioned. We had dinner at Galileo's a few nights later. The potato and leek soup was great, and the pasta dishes were decent. The Chicken Marsala, however, was awful. It was a large cut of chicken coated in something similar to tempura batter, served in a luke-warm watered down syrup-tasting sauce. Service on both occasions was excellent, especially at Galileo's.

I do not recommend this restaurant, at all! My husband and I visited this restaurant on 7/30/11 around 2 pm. for a late lunch. I was about 87 degree outside with high humidity. We walked into the fully-staffed restaurant, with a medium amount of customers - but there wasn't and wait. After sitting at a table for 12 minutes, and not one server acknowledge our existence. My husband and I got up and walked out. In 20 years, we have never walked out after being seated. Also, either they did not have their air conditioning turned on - or they did not have the temperature set low enough. I was sweating - I was not even sweating outside with the high temperatures. It was very uncomfortable. It's a shame. The atmosphere is very appealing but that's it. I do not recommend this place nor do I plan on visiting the Bistro at Liberty Square in the future.

Went here twice for breakfast while staying down the street at the Landmark. I love the baked oatmeal with cinnamon and cherries, one of about three dozen cherry-based dishes we ate in Door County.

The BEST Tuna Melt that I have ever had anywhere!

  • Tom G.

Excellent Di mare pizza with large shrimp, good thin crust (you get your choice or thick or thin) whose slightly uneven shape proved it wasn't machine made. Shrimp, pesto, red peppers and pine nuts -- pronounced perfect by my companion. Good Zinfandel, if a little pricey at $9 a glass. Spinach and artichoke starter also a little pricey for the size, but delicious. Not enough toast with it, but the waitress said she was prepared because extra toast was a constant request. You'd think they'd figure that one out. The only thing French I could detect was a baked brie; otherwise the menu looked like any other in the county -- burgers, crab cakes, sandwiches, etc. How about a Croque Monsieur, or escargots, or more than three French reds (one a Chateauneuf du Pape at $175 a bottle) and maybe an Armagnac and a Calvados instead of bog standard California brandies. So, very good food, nice enough design -- just don't expect much visible French influence. But then, they do call it The Bistro, not Le Bistro. Warning enough.

Stopped for a late breakfast on a Sunday. The food was very good, as were the bellinis. However, the service was slow and the eggs were not done right for myself or my boyfriend. They were all done over hard, as opposed to over easy and over medium as we ordered them. Other than that, the bruschetta was fantastic!!!

There is a reason this place receives an overall 2.5 stars. It is truly 'meh.' Not only is it mediocre, but they stick it to you with 20+% gratuity with 6 or more people...even at lunch (an $87 one). The server maybe appears 3 times, and it is to greet you, drop off food, and close the meal (a meal of 3 appetizers, 2 sangrias, 1 diet coke, 1 iced tea, a fruit & walnut salad with chicken ($5 for that add-on), and a kid's meal of chicken tenders and fries ($10.99)). I know it's Door County, but I can go to a) a better place and spend the same for quality food; b) not have a 20% gratuity thrown on the bill for sub-par service. If I'm hungry, I will go down to the Schoolhouse cheese shop for a $7 quality cheese, cross the street for a $7 loaf of bread at McCready Artisan Bread, and grab a bottle of flavored olive oil and have my own meal of appetizers without batting an eye. I can sit in the park with a beautiful view of the bay, cut and serve my own food, and not be regret my experience.

Stopped in for breakfast on our way out of town - glad we did! The recently renovated back restaurant, Galileo's, is a cute little pseudo-Italian bistro, with a big, beautiful vintage bar serving as the centerpiece of the room. Our food was great, service was friendly, though our waiter was new, so we perhaps spent more time waiting on things that customers usually would.

Sitting here for 10 minutes waiting for my bill. Breakfast was the traditional eggs and pancakes. Nothing to fancy.

This place was almost good. It started as 5 stars with an amazing roasted garlic and onion soup but quickly spiraled downward. We had a basket of fries (mediocre) since two people ordered the soup and they wanted something else to munch on, a Cuban sandwich (would have been better off making it at home), a pizza (sautéed onions were the only thing worthwhile so evidently they understand how to mix onions and butter) but the biggest failure was the turkey and mozzarella panini. There were two teeny dollops of cheese. They were minuscule. We complained and sent it back. When the server came back he told us the sandwhich was supposed to be made with non existent cheese and they compensated by putting an extra dollop of cold mozzarella on a warm sandwhich. Not good. The service was horrid. We asked multiple times for the pasta salad (side item) to be brought immediately for our hungry daughter but it came with the rest of the food. We asked for extra napkins (ignored) and refills for our drinks (nope, one glass of water per guest). We saw numerous people leave with their plates half finished and watched others fail to catch the attention of the wait staff.

Horrible service. We rarely walk out of restaurants before ordering, but the service was so unorganized we did. We tried to stay. I went and got us menus after the help gave the three groups behind us menus and water and started taking their orders. I joked that I should go get us water too, but didn't. Waited a couple more minutes and got up and left.

We were here twice while visiting Egg Harbor, once for dinner and once for breakfast. We found the restaurant through the attached shop, where we'd bought some items, so it seemed a convenient place to get dinner as well. Unfortunately dinner was only fair-to-middling for the price. My father's fish was utterly cold; he had to send it back. I had prime rib, which was alright but certainly not the best I ever had (and without the traditional cup of au jus). My mother was probably the most pleased, with her flat iron steak with "Black Jack" sauce (the waitress wasn't sure what that was when asked, but it was clear that it had Jack Daniels in it upon tasting; it was good, a thin sauce, not like a BBQ). Breakfast was better. My folks both got a special of "all you can eat" hash browns with toast, eggs and bacon, which they enjoyed, particularly the well-crisped hash browns; I got a pumpkin-nut scone and sausage with tea. The scone did not suffer from the problem of being overly arid, as is often the case, and I got a selection of teas to choose from, as well as a squat little teapot of water with enough water in it for several cups. Service wasn't the strongest point. The dinner waitress was young and didn't seem terribly informed on things (her youthful mien of out-of-it-ness probably didn't help either). The breakfast waitress seemed distracted (it wasn't like the place was mobbed or anything), and she wasn't totally sure about some of the offerings of the day (e.g. types of scones, oatmeals etc.) A lady who'd helped us in the shop came through during both of our meals and remembered us; she was very gracious and friendly. The setting is very nice: a high-ceilinged room, all white moldings and wood floors, with a huge blue "ribbon" running around the ceiling with quotes on dining on it. Overall, I'd say breakfast is a surer bet here. At dinner, you might be gambling if you don't order the Black Jack steak.

I would avoid this restaurant. We made our 3rd attempt to go there in 3 years and we literally sat down looked at the menu and left. There is nothing on the menu and it's always dead. Food we had in the past was just ok and the service is always SLOW! Try Casey's BBQ up the road. It's a bar, but don't let that fool you! GREAT food and super nice staff!

    (1)
  • Catherine S.

Lovely food, pleasant atmosphere, good waitstaff. I'd give it five stars were it not for the prominent use of my least favorite typeface for some of the pithy food quotes ringing the ceiling. The typophile in me trumps my inner foodie, sorry. Their seasonal menu takes advantage of what's locally available and fresh, which I very much like. I had the chicken breast with squash medley off the Pumpkin Patch fall menu. The chicken was done perfectly, very juicy and tender. Nearly everyone else at my table selected the pumpkin gorgonzola ravioli with sage cream sauce. The ravioli were fantastic, but the portion size was a little small. Reservations recommended during busy weekends.

Sat outside. It was chilly in the shade. I wish they had put the umbrellas down for that fall day! The food was okay. We ordered a caprese pizza. It was okay, but the tomatoes were way to thick! Service was slightly slow, but it was pretty busy that day. It took forever to get our beers, and then the server forgot to bring us a glass until she brought out our pizza.

Food was VERY GOOD!!! But the service was VERY BAD!!! This was our second time there and thought maybe the first time was a fluke, but I was wrong. The service is that bad. We sat out on the beautiful patio on a great day. We will see if the third time is a charm next year when we are back there.

  • John C.

Our experience was not great here. The service was cordial, but quite slow and unattentive. The soup of the day seemed to be lacking some key ingredients, including salt. The sandwich I ate was a bit bland as well. We ate here during the early afternoon, so they could have just been off of their game a bit during a slower period.

  • Seth W.

Really horrible wait, not compd on much And food was wrong. Half assed attempt at making us "ok" with a 2 1/2 hour wait, but offered "appetizers" for the next day. Wait staff was good, but kitchen and manager were pretty poor.

  • Amanda C.

We opted for the sandwich menu at dinner, because...well, we're cheap. Burgers and sandwiches are $8-$11, which is typical for Door County. And they're really good here - I had the walnut burger, which I am now determined to find a recipe for, because it was that awesome. Beer is very reasonable here, which we appreciated. Our server seemed new and a little nervous, but she got everything right and was super friendly. The atmosphere is a little more upscale than most places in the area, but we didn't feel weird in our jeans. Nice and cozy and tasty.

This review is for Galileo's Italian Steakhouse a part of Liberty Square. My wife and I had dinner Saturday night following the Pumpkin Patch Festival in Egg Harbor. We attempted to eat further north in Fish Creek however we were turned away due to a lack of a reservation. Very unfortunate... So, we doubled back and gave Galileo's Italian Steakhouse a try, our first mistake. Instead of opting for a tried and true such as Shipwrecked Restaurant & Brewery we thought to be a bit more adventurous... Mistake number two. Ouch. At this point I will leave it short, I had the Bolognese with meatballs... Disappointing is all I can say, the sauce lacked depth and the meatballs were tasteless. My wife is a crab cake lover and she too was disappointed as well. Though she enjoyed the flavor of the crab cakes it was the portion size was less than as indicated on the menu as JUMBO, or as she put it, "about the size of a silver dollar and thinner than a pancake. Overall I would avoid the restaurant as there are far better choices throughout the Door Peninsula. The food lacks any use of seasoning and it is overpriced for the quality. Unfortunately our server was not much better even though I felt as she was attempting to do her best. Maybe a little training by the management would help improve the overall experience. In essence feel they are attempting to offer a five star meal while only giving you a one star return. With that said though I would suggest Dale's Special Margarita... very tasty.

I would not go for dinner at The Bistro at Liberty Square if someone gave me a free coupon. Yes, our meal was that bad. The service was ok. We ordered the curry chicken, the hamburger, and 2 personal pizzas. the curry chicken was made with frozen and boiled vegetables that couldn't have been more flavorless and rubbery. They forgot the chicken on my curry chicken and then proceeded to place reheated chickent on top of the curry with no seasoning. The hamburger was supposed to be medium and came out moo-ing and was still frozen in the center. Then, they took it back to the kitchen and microwaved it. The pizzas were not tasty. The average entree was $15 and the personal pizzas were $9. There are so many other options. This is one of the last places I'd go again. By the way, numerous other tables had to send their entrees back too and the table next to us was receiving an apology from the host for something significant. Be forewarned -- don't waste your money or time.

I stopped by The Bistro for lunch while my husband played golf in Door County - so glad I did! The restaurant was charming, the service attentive and welcoming, and the food delicious! I had the half order of the Door County salad with the addition of grilled chicken - lovely presentation and fresh greens. The Cherry Vinaigrette was tart and flavorful; the chicken succulent and well seasoned; my favorite part of the salad was the Montamore' cheese and dried cherries - they were so good I purchased a package of each at the deli shop! I would return to The Bistro when we're back in Door County and I definitely recommend it!

There was no wait, and our waitress was friendly and attentive. My husband's pasta was flavorless and disappointing, while my salad was fresh and crisp. The cherry pie was also disappointing. A restaurant in Door County should not be permitted to serve mediocre cherry pie! Wine list was satisfactory.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
